Later he was commissioned by the Austrian entomologists Cajetan Rudolf Felder and Alois Friedrich Rogenhofer.
Geyer's task was to draw, engrave, and create lithographs for exact scientific illustrations of each species in the vast insect collection gathered during the famous Austrian Novara Expedition (1857–1859). This historic voyage was the first official scientific circumnavigation of the globe undertaken by the Austrian Empire. Geyer’s highly detailed lithographs were published in the monumental multi-volume work
