Pierre Rambur was a famous French entomologist. He was born in Chinon, France in 1801. He joined the Société Entomologique de France in 1832, later becoming its president. He travelled widely in France, Spain, and Cosica, studying their Lepidoptera.

His publications include

  • Collection iconographique et historique des chenilles (with Adolphe Hercule de Graslin and Jean Baptiste Boisduval, Encyclopédique de Roret) 1832.
  • Faune entomologique de l'Andalousie (two volumes, 1837–1840)
  • Histoire naturelle des insectes (part of the Suites à Buffon, 1842)[1]

    He drew illustrations of his specimens to include in his publications, employing various engravers to make his illustrations, including Jean-Baptiste-Michel Dupréel, Christophe Annedouche, and Mademoiselle Marie-Louise Plée, also a well-known 19th-century French botanical and scientific engraver.
