Sanmuel Snellen drew the illustrations for Pieter Snellen, who was a merchant in Rotterdam, for Pieter's monographs in the journal Tijdschrift voor Entomologie. These drawings were then transferred onto stone plates and printed by the renowned Leiden lithographer P.W.M. Trap.
