Chromo-Lithographs by Abraham Jacobus Wendel (1826 – 1915) and Frederik Johannes Wendel (1829 - 1882)

Abraham initially went to work with the Arntz & Co. Around 1850 he left Arntz to work with his brother Frederik.

During the 1870s, the Wendel brothers operated a joint scientific print workshop in Leiden. For scientific journals like the Tijdschrift voor Entomologie, where they functioned as a team. Frederik laid down the framework of the image on the lithographic stone, and Abraham utilized his engraving skills to carve the final textures.

After Frederik died, Abraham went to work with the the P.W.M. Trap printing house Many of the Wendel's lithographs are now considered desirable and collectable.

They produced illustrations for the articles in scientific journals by a number of entomologists including William Buckler and Pieter Snellen.
