Bernhard Wienker was born in Eschendorf (Westphalia). He became a highly prominent Berlin painter, copperplate engraver, and lithographer, rendering detailed natural history drawings onto copper and stone for major scientists of the era (including Ehrenberg and Klug).
He spent over three decades working in Berlin as a premier scientific illustrator for the Zoologisches Museum and the Royal Prussian Academy of Sciences.
He became famous for his plates illustrating Christian Gottfried Ehrenberg’s masterpiece on microscopic organisms.
